It's easy to make a buck. It's a lot tougher to make a difference. -Tom Brokaw
Hosting a fundraiser is an enjoyable and effective way to raise awareness and funds for Peruvian Hearts. There are many different types of fundraisers that you can host, so we thought we would list a few of our own ideas below to help get you started.
Almost any enjoyable activity can be turned into some sort of a fundraiser and it's a great excuse to bring friends and family together. It also provides a great opportunity to educate people about the importance of girls' education and how Peruvian Hearts is helping to make a difference.
If you have questions or need help with any of the following ideas, feel free to Contact Us.
Walk-The-Walk: Organize a fundraising walk and have walkers commit to walking two or even four miles (the distance many of our children in Peru walk each way to and from school every day). Each walker should find sponsors to pledge money for each mile they walk. It takes $50 to feed a child for a year. Perhaps each walker can set a goal of trying to raise $50, which will provide nutrition and a multivitamin to a child for an entire school year.
Shoot From The Heart: Make and decorate mini-marshmallow shooters and sell them with small bags of mini-marshmallows. Hold a friendly competition in a gym or large open space where participants shoot marshmallows at targets.
Bike-A-Thon, Hop-a-Thon, soccer shoot-out, or basketball shoot-out: Organize one of these fun and engaging events at your school and ask your friends and family to sponsor you. For each mile biked or goal or basket made your sponsors will pledge to donate a certain amount of money.
Donate Your Allowance: Ask your friends to donate their allowances for a certain week or month. Decide ahead of time how much money you are trying to raise and be sure to tell your friends why you want their help.
Host a Birthday Party/Holiday Party For Peruvian Hearts: Instead of receiving gifts, ask your guests to bring a donation for the children in Peru. The donation can either be money or much needed items such as children's chewable multivitamins or children’s books in Spanish. During your birthday party, tell your guests about why you want to help the children in Peru.
Bowl-A-Thon: A bowling fundraiser is a fun way to raise funds. You can rent lanes at a bowling alley or the entire building and start finding participants and/or teams. You can either charge an entry fee for each team or participants can recruit sponsors to pledge money for the total number of pins they knock down.
Host an Eat So They Can (ESTC) Dinner: People all around the world host dinner parties, invite their friends, share their ideas about world hunger and gather donations. Instead of skipping a meal to raise awareness about hunger, host a meal for friends and family. Consider this activity for World Food Day in October. Click here to learn more about ESTC.
Organize a Peruvian Hearts Collection: It is easy to organize all sorts of different collections. Peruvian Hearts supporters often collect items such as: vitamins, children’s books in Spanish, school supplies, and toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, etc.).
Start a Peruvian Hearts Club: Start a Peruvian Hearts Club at your school, church, temple, or mosque. We would be happy to send you more information on Peruvian Hearts to help you explain why you want to get others involved to help the children in Peru.
